Privacy Policy — Sumbly

Last updated: 2026-10-11

Sumbly is an iPhone app provided by Aleksandra Maksimowska, an individual developer based in Poland ("we", "us"), who is the data controller for the personal data described here. Questions: support@sumbly.com.

1. What we collect

  • Account. When you sign in with Apple, Apple shares a unique account identifier and, the first time only, your name and email (or a private relay address if you hide it).
  • Subscription. If you subscribe to Premium or Premium+, Apple sends us a signed record of the transaction so we can activate it. Apple handles payment; we never see your card details.
  • Usage. Request times and error logs, the number of summaries you used this month, and a random install identifier used for fair-use limits.
  • Product events. A short list of in-app steps (for example, finished onboarding or opened a summary), tied only to the random install identifier, never to your account. You can turn this off in Settings → Privacy.
  • What you ask for. The creators you search for and the videos you choose to summarize.

Your profile photo, saved summaries and followed creators stay on your device. We don't collect contacts, location, camera, microphone or browsing history.

2. How we use it

To run your account, generate the summaries you ask for, manage your subscription, apply fair-use limits, answer support emails, and keep the service secure and working. We don't sell your data or use it for advertising.

3. Who processes it

  • Apple: Sign in with Apple and In-App Purchases.
  • Railway: hosting for our servers and database.
  • Anthropic: generates summaries from video transcripts; it receives the transcript, not your account details.
  • Webshare: a network proxy used to fetch public transcripts.
  • Google / YouTube: public video information through the YouTube API Services. Your use of this data is also governed by the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.

They may process data outside your country, including in the United States, under appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

4. How long we keep it

Account and subscription data: while your account exists. Usage counters reset every 30 days. Product events: up to 400 days. Video transcripts and metadata: cached for up to 24 hours. Summaries are stored without any link to who asked for them.

5. Deleting your account

Delete it anytime in Account → Delete Account. We delete your account and subscription records and revoke Sumbly's access to your Apple ID. Records the law requires us to keep, such as for tax, may be kept for that period.

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example in the EU or UK), you can ask to access, correct, delete or export your data, or object to its processing, by writing to support@sumbly.com. You can also complain to your data protection authority.

7. Children

Sumbly is rated 13+ and isn't directed at children below that age or the minimum age where you live. If you think a child has given us personal data, write to us and we'll delete it.

8. Security and changes

Data travels over encrypted connections, but no system is completely secure. If we change this policy in a material way, we'll tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
